A Portville, NY man is behind bars after he allegedly led police on a high speed chase in Coudersport on the evening of Saturday, June 4th.
According to the Coudersport Police Department in a report, 27-year-old Rickey L. Sherman was pulled over by police on East Second Street at about 9:00 p.m. because he was allegedly speeding. While officers talked with Sherman, he allegedly drove away and began speeding. Sherman drove for about a quarter of a mile before hitting a fence and a tree at 109 East Second Street. When officers arrived at the scene, Sherman allegedly fled on foot. Police found Sherman after a short period of time before arresting him.
Sherman faces the following charges: felony Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer in the 3rd degree; misdemeanor Recklessly Endangering Another Person in the 2nd degree; misdemeanor DUI: Gen Imp/Inc of Driving Safely – 1st Off; misdemeanor DUI: Highest Rte of Alc (BAC .16+) 1st Off; summary Exceed 35 MPH In Urban Dist 22 MPH; summary Reckless Driving; and Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforce. Sherman was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Delores Weiss. He is currently in Potter County Jail. His bail is set at $25,000.
