Emporium Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Norwich Township Crash

An Emporium man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash that occurred in McKean County’s Norwich Township on Saturday, June 4th, 2016.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police in Coudersport in a report, 25-year-old Daniel T. Hutton was driving a 2000 Suzuki Katana in a south direction on Gardeau Road. Hutton tried to slow down upon seeing a north traveling vehicle. Hutton pushed down on the break too hard which caused the front tire to lock up. Then, the motorcycle traveled off the west side of the road before striking a ditch. The motorcycle began sliding and rolling in a south direction down the ditch. The motorcycle rolled over Hutton at least two times. Hutton rested about 100 feet south of the initial impact site. The motorcycle rested about 120 feet to the south of the initial impact site. Specifically, the crash occurred on T470 about 1,362 feet to the north of an unnamed street at about 6:13 p.m.

Hutton, who was wearing his helmet, was taken to UPMC Altoona via Austin EMS and Mercy Flight. His injuries were likely serious. Hutton was charged with a moving violation. The Austin Fire Department, the Emporium Fire Department, and the Port Allegany Fire Department also helped at the scene.
