The lawyer for the man accused of killing 21-month-old Maddox requested that the trial be moved to a different county on Thursday.
Michael Vavonese, who is Ryan Lawrence’s lawyer, explained that he thought the media coverage of the case may have an effect on the fairness of a jury in Onondaga County, NY. Judge Anthony Aloi denied Vavonese’s request. In addition, Vavonese tried arguing Lawrence’s first-degree murder charge and first-degree kidnapping charge. Aloi denied those motions as well.
In February, Lawrence allegedly killed 21-month-old Maddox. In addition to first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping charges, he also faces charges of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
The date of the trial is October 31st, 2016.
