Emery Johnson Gets Prison Time in Connection with Ronald Powell’s Death in 2015

The Towanda man who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter stemming from the death of a man after a bar fight has been sentenced to prison.

29-year-old Emery Johnson received a prison sentence of one to four years for the involuntary manslaughter charge. In addition, he must pay $8,700. He was not found guilty on a felony aggravated assault charge. A jury found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March.

61-year-old Ronald Powell of Ulster passed away after Emery Johnson fought with him outside of Captain Jack’s Bar in Towanda on Labor Day in 2015. Powell hit his head after falling, and he passed away a day later while at the hospital.
